Alien Spectacles is an Australian ex pat living in Los Angeles and completing a doctorate in Religious Studies, specializing in Medieval devotional and funerary art. In what is laughingly referred to as "spare time" between swearing at Latin translations and reading roughly ten linear feet of critical theory, medieval wills and history per week, the Alien also reads fantasy and science fiction, and is working on a Young Adult steampunk novel. This combination of activities is achieved through equal parts espresso and insomnia.
This blog explores religious themes and the appropriation of things medieval, macabre and magical in science fiction, fantasy and comics. Plus whatever other nerdery catches my fancy on any given day.
I update on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
